Day 11: A photo of you taken recently

So, I recently got my hair cut. I've had long hair for years. I think the last time my hair was any shorter than my shoulders was when I was a Senior in high school. I had VERY long hair before that. My sister had been doing my hair since I was pretty young. I think I was about 8 when my sister started doing my hair. I can honestly say that from the time I was about 8, until the time I was 17, my sister was the only person that touched my hair with scissors, or did pretty much anything with my hair. I was happy with letting it air dry and throw it in a pony tail.  My mom and I went to the mall to have a hair cut. I wanted to get my hair trimmed because I had Senior pictures coming up. The stylist pretty much badgered me into getting the new trendy "Rachel" cut (You know... from Friends. It was just a couple years old at that point in time.) I was very hesitant about it. I didn't really want to cut my hair so close to Senior pictures. She assured me that everything would be fine, that my hair would look fanTASTIC! Well, it didn't. It looked terrible. I hated it. She cut the sides too short to even be CONSIDERED a Rachel cut! She should have never even suggested the cut to me in the first place. My hair is WAY too thick, and WAY too wavy/curly for it! Since then, I've been VERY selective about who I go to for a hair cut. If it was feasible for me to drive to my sisters house just to have my hair cut, I would. She only lives about 10 hours from here. Because of the horrible experience of that terrible hair cut, I very rarely get my hair cut.  For my birthday, Sam took me, Monkey, and Bug to go get our hair cut. This is what I got.

Day 10: A photo of you taken over ten years ago

There are very few pictures of me that were taken over 10 years ago. Ten years ago today, I was married to my first husband. I was deliriously happy at this moment in time 10 years ago. We were getting ready to go to Wyoming for his Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. I remember us talking and saying that we would have something as wonderful as what they had on our 50th wedding anniversary.
Well, as you can see, I'm no longer married to my first husband. A lot of things can happen in just a couple years time.

Anyways! Here is a picture of me that is older than 10 years. This was my Junior year of high school. I was going to the prom, alone. I didn't really care. There was only one guy that I was really interested in, and he was dating someone else at the time anyways. I was never actually serious with anyone when I was in school. I found myself single at least once every 30 days. Usually at my choice. My sister did my hair, as she did in just about every single occasion that I needed to have my hair done. She took me to get my nails done as well. My Mom, the ever hard working Mom that she was, was in Japan at the time, so, my sister stepped in and helped. My mom bought me my corsage and I was none the happier to show up, eat, and leave. *giggle* I guess that still carries over to today actually. Every single Marine Corps Ball I've ever been too, we show up, look nice, pictures, smile, eat, and leave. In about 10 years MY little girl will be about the same age as I am in this picture, and she will be going to Prom. I can only hope that she's smart, like me, and goes alone!

Day 9: A photo you took

Okay, so I've been pretty bad about actually blogging EVERY DAY! But, I have other things to attend to as well! You know, like cleaning the house, cooking, doing laundry, working out. Yes. I said it. I've started exercising again. I lost some weight last time. I'm going to try it again. Using pretty much the same methods, but this time, I've got a work out partner. I got over to my friend Brittneys' house on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to work out. We do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, and Tuesdays and Thursdays, I do The Biggest Loser Cardio Max. We will see how this goes! I really want to get in shape. I hate being the size that I am, not to say that I'm a big ol fatty, but, I'm not comfortable with how I look. I've also tried to start cooking more. I HATE how generally unhealthy things are for you. I would be none the happier if I could just have a lot of land, with a couple cows, some chickens, maybe a goat and a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig garden! I would be super super happy. Of course, then I wouldn't need to work out because I would be outside all the time working with the garden and the animals!

Okay, anyways. Todays' picture is one that I took when we went to the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium. Monkey actually seen the Cardinal before I did, and I took a picture for him. I think it actually turned out pretty good! Maybe I do have a bit of my Momma in me after all! :-)

Day 7: A photo that makes you happy

This picture makes me super happy. Mom and the kids came down for a visit for Spring Break a couple of years ago. We all went to eat at Mikes Farm. It was amazing as always. My mom took this picture, and I tweeked it a little bit. This picture is sitting on our mantle in a beautiful frame. It's always made me happy. It's one of our first pictures as a family. The very first was 2 days before we got married and it was at Christmas.

Day 6: Whatever tickles your fancy

So yes... I missed a day yesterday, so it will actually be 31 Days of Me! LOL

Whatever tickles my fancy... hmmmm... My house tickles my fancy! I guess I will talk about my house. We've lived here for a little less than a year. The end of this month will be a year. We have such wonderful plans for this house. I'll share some of them with you! :-)

(Pay no mind to the date, it's wrong. These were the pictures that we took when we were buying it.)

Here is the front of our house.

What we would like to do is this: rip out all of those horrible hedges. They stink for one thing, and for another, they're a pain in the arse to maintain! So, we're going to rip those out. Then, we are going to build a new front porch from the edge of the current porch, to the end of the 3rd window. Basically following the ^ in the house. On either side of the porch, we will be planting 3 Josee Reblooming Lilac in the front. One in front of the single window on the left hand side of the picture, and two on the other side, one of which will be right outside one of our bedroom windows. I'm not sure if I want to put in a porch swing or some rocking chairs and a table between. There will be some other plants up there too, but, we just haven't figured out what we want there yet, other than the Lilacs.

Next is the living room. (Yes the picture is fuzzy....)

Yes, the walls are painted Brick Red and Dark Brown. We have plans to paint this room a light green color to go with our black couch and love seat. There really isn't a whole lot to change here, other than the paint, maybe put some new trim, or possibly some new tile in front of the front door. Which would be nice.

Here's the Master Bedroom. (By FAR the worst room in the whole house!)

Yeah, so, those pictures on the wall, the previous owners painted it a horrible sponge paint, of light brown on the bottom and dark brown on the top, well, the failed to move any of the pictures on the walls, so, amongst the horrible paint, is touch-up horrible paint. We call it the "diarrhea room" because it literally looks like someone has thrown poo all over the walls. It's terrible!!!!!! They even had CONTACT PAPER on the windows to help black out the light from the lap post that's on the corner of the property. *shudder*

We're going to paint this room a nice robins' egg blue, maybe just a little bit darker than robins' egg blue. I would like to get white bedding and repaint our dressers white, and the trim the same blue as our room, and white curtains. Sam says he doesn't really like the idea, but I do. He thinks that because our master bedroom and bath are connected that we would have to carry the "theme" into there, which I tell him that we don't have to. I want to do the exact opposite in there. Everything pretty much white with blue accents. Of course, I want to put new trim in the bathroom because everything is trimmed in icky 80's looking brass. I want everything to be stainless steel or silver.

The kitchen.

So, the kitchen isn't that horribly big, but it's not tiny either. We want to repaint it. I'm not sure what color yet. We actually want to build onto the house as well. We would like to add a dinning room off the back of the kitchen, where the windows are, on the left side of the picture. We would then turn the dinning room into an office/den type area. I would like to take out the door from that section of the house, and put in a nice picture window possibly, and add a deck to the back of the house between the house and the new dinning room. I was thinking of a light yellow for the kitchen. It's currently a burnt orange color sponge painted with a creamy orange on the top. It's the most tolerable room that was repainted by the former owners. They still did a horrible job of it though. We also want to take out the small counter right beside the laundry room entrance and make it into a pantry. We have PLENTY of cabinet space, but, I had thought about taking out the bar to open it up a bit. Not sure if we are still going to do this or not.

The last room that I would like to do anything with as of right now is the Laundry room. Not much to do in there.

What I would like to do in here, other than get one of those really awesome front loading washers and dryers, is paint it a deep sky blue color and get some boarder to put around the whole thing. Except I wouldn't put the boarder on the top of the wall, I would put it about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way up the wall.
I was thinking about something like this border, considering it's also our "dog room" as well as our laundry room.
It's kinda cute. But you never know what I will actually put up there. Until we get it all painted and done, there's still time to change my mind! LOL

Day 5: Your favorite quote

Hmm.. I think that my favorite quote for life would have to be:

"Well behaved women seldom make history." Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

I don't know why it's my favorite, other than I used to cause a lot of trouble when I was younger. I know that's not exactly what it means, but, that's still my take on it.

I can honestly say that when I was younger, I was quite the trouble maker. I just never actually got *caught*! My Mom always knew though. She always knew that I had done something I shouldn't have done, and somehow she would make me feel bad about doing it, without every saying a word. Maybe it was just my subconscious doing it for her. How about that? Never even knowing that your kid has done something that might be illegal in several states, and they punish themselves for it?! LOL

Also, today is my 30th birthday. Shocking, I know! I want to thank my Momma for always being there for me, no matter how old I was, no matter how much you wanted to smack me in the head with a frying pan, and no matter how many HORRIBLE choices I made. If it wasn't for my wonderfully sweet Momma, I wouldn't be here, nor be the person I am today. I also want to thank my Step-dad Kevin. He's been a very positive influence in my life since I was about 17 years old. I know he's had a few times when he just wanted to pop me, but, he always tried to give me the benefit of the doubt. My sisters Angie and Kris, what would I do without you guys? And Jamey, well, I wouldn't have been as well looked after as I was in high school if it wasn't for Jamey! My wonderful hubby, Sam, for always loving me, no matter how grumpy, cross, or bitchy I get. And my fantastic children, who never cease to amaze me at how much of a kid I can still be at my "old age" and how much things have changed since I was their age.

Day 4: Your favorite book

My favorite book. Wow.. I've never thought about my favorite book. I look around my house, and I see books everywhere. Kids books, adult books, dog books, dictionaries, military books, borrowed books, books to give away, books to keep, spiral bound books, hard cover books, soft cover books, books on tape!
I grew up with a mom that read all the time. I think some of my earliest memories involve my mom, sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, and her book.  When I was 14, my mom quit smoking (about the time I *started* smoking) and so from then on it was just the coffee and the book at the kitchen table! My mom instilled a deep love for reading in me, which I HOPE that I can instill in my children. (Worked for Bug, Monkey, not so much!)

I think my favorite book for this past week would actually not be a book at all, it's a pamphlet that I picked up from my doctors office quite a while back. It's about what happens to your body when you quit smoking. Seven days ago today, I quit smoking. Actually, I had my last smoke around 5pm, but, yano! I am halfway to increasing my circulation today! I  feel a whole lot better physically! Now I just need to "relearn" how to calm myself from an agitated state without smoking. I don't think I ever really learned how to do this without the aid of smoking, so, my poor husband gets to endure me learning! All I can say is it's a good thing that he loves me! Here is a poster of basically what my pamphlet says, but much cooler!

Day 3: Your favorite television program

Hands down

Sam got me started on this show when we started dating. Sam always wanted to be a doctor, and even went to pre-med school! (He has a BS in Biology) So, Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs, ER, he watched them all. I watched ER way back when before Dr. Green kicked the bucket. (I BAWLED that episode btw...) I don't know what it is about Grey's Anatomy. I absolutely LOVE this show! I know that it's not exactly accurate (tho they try to be), and that, basically, it's a prime time soap opera (but who cares!), but I love it! If they ever get rid of this show, I will never watch TV again! (Okay, maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but you know what I mean!)
I think that they have some pretty good plot lines, really hot men (C'mon Dr Averys' eyes!! YOW!), and I get a tear going at least every 3 episodes, if not more! And if Shondra Rhimes happens to read this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Lexie and Mark get back together, and keep Owen and Christina together! Bring in someone new for Jackson! And why can't Izzie and Alex be together?! Okay... sorry... back to why I love Grey's!
Grey's for me is just a great release! To be able to watch this show is relaxing, tho the season finale this year had me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE 2 hours! My friend Keona and I would text during the breaks and I think almost all of mine consisted of : "OMG!!" and "HOLY SH*T!" Yes, I love it that much.
Sam gets really mad at me when I "go Meredith" and get all "dark and twisty." I use "Seriously?!" A LOT! and it drives Sam crazy sometimes. He created a monster, and now he's paying for it. :-)

Day 2: Your favorite movie

Well, I will spare you the long post like yesterday. Todays' post will be right on target!

Way back when, we lived in a small town, where it was safe to actually let your kids play outside unattended, let them roam around and never have to worry about much of anything. If you got in trouble in the town that I grew up in, chances are, your parents already knew it before you got home anyways. In our small town, we had all the great things there are to have in a town, without having a large corporate company in there. We had a grocery store (IGA), a gas station, flower shop, pharmacy, couple banks, a couple of ice cream places, tho one was only open a few years at a time, restaurant, and a video store, so on and so forth. Now, all of these were locally owned places, save the IGA and the gas station, tho the owners of both of them lived in town, but there were "corps" behind their stores.
When I was a teenager, about 15, and this movie came out that was just the bees' knees for me! It was rude, crude, and all about girl power! My best friend Amy and I rented this movie so many times, I'm sure my mom was leery of sending me to the video store to get movies. (I'm sure Mom and Amy know EXACTLY which movie I'm talking about... LOL)
My favorite movie of all time is....
Tank Girl!! Lori Petty in this movie is amazing!! I can't give you an exact reason why I like it so much, I just think it's a hysterical movie! C'mon! She falls in love with a half human half kangaroos! It's just an awesome movie. I've had many many people buy this movie and find it as hilarious as I do. It's worth a watch. Even if you have to find it on NetFlix or some other obscure off the wall way. It's worth it... really!

Day 1: Your favorite song

My favorite song... wow.. that's a tough one! I've had many "favorite" songs in my time. I can't narrow it down to just one! I'll pick my Top 5 and tell you why I like them so much.

1. Magic by Colbie Caillat- I really like this song because it's Sam and I's song. You know, that one song that you and your significant other have decided sounds the most like your relationship. Well, that wasn't exactly why it's our song, but, sorta is. It's just been the one song that if we're stressed or need to relax, we just listen to it together and it makes us both really happy.

2. People Are Strange by The Doors- What can I say, I'm a sucker for a hot guy in leather pants! Honestly, (other than thinking he was a God with shoulder-length curly hair) I always found Jim Morrison to be quite the literary genius. I know that sounds like quite a stretch for a man that committed suicide in a bath-tub in Paris, but, I read his auto-bio when I was in high school, and he had such a great mind, just a strange way of getting the information out. I always related to the song, because I was always felt myself a bit strange when compared myself to my peers. Now, at the ripe age of 30 (on Saturday) I have come to realize that everyone is a bit strange, and that's exactly what this song is talking about. (Okay, so I figure out that's what the song is about way before now.....)

3. Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk by Rufus Wainwright- Oh Rufus... if only you liked WOMEN! *sigh* This song is such a great song. The way that I take it is that you always want something that isn't usually all that great for you. It's about how you, hopefully, will conquer those things in your life and come out standing at the end. It's one of those songs that can be taken SO many ways. Look up the lyrics, or better yet, listen to the song, and make up your own mind. (I also have to add a Thank You to Dann for ever introducing me to Rufus. <3)

4. Across The Universe by The Beatles- Okay, so, I'm sad to announce that I should have been born at the same time as my Mother. I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE "moldy oldies" as I called them when I was young. I also like the Rufus Wainwright cover of this song for the movie I Am Sam (Fantastic movie btw...) too. The song itself is very open to interpretation, which is why I love it so much. Way back when, when I was a stupid teenager, I listened to this song one time when I was stoned (Yes... I know smoking weed is bad, like I said "stupid teenager" and I haven't done it since then... so NYA!) it made PERFECT sense. Then I got paranoid that the cops were going to catch me and started yelling at people for staring at me. LOL

5. Winter by Tori Amos- God, I LOVE this song. It's been a favorite of mine for a very very *very* long time. Again, I must thank Dann for this one. I dated Dann a very long time ago, and he was an incredibly sweet, wonderful man, that I had the privileged of knowing. Dann was everything that I could have ever thought I was looking for (at the time). We talked, we shared, we held intelligent conversations about more than just regular every day things. Dann would come home from work, call me, and play the piano for me every day. He was always a wonderfully supportive friend first, then a boyfriend. One day, towards the end of our relationship, he played this song for me. He told me that this was his song to me. I never got it, not for a long time after he and I split up and *really* listened to the song. One line has stuck with me to this day. "Your must learn to stand up for yourself/ Cause I can't always be around" He was trying to tell me that I needed to stand on my own. That I needed to be me, fly or fall. At the time I was too "young" to get what he meant. He may have been a few years younger, but he was far wiser that I could even think of being. I'm sure that there are many other interpretations to this song as well, but that is what I took away from it. Since I've moved to NC, I have done just that. I have stood on my own, fly or fall, and sometimes I have fallen, and I realize that it's just one of the ways of life.
